Unemployment allowance in Goa
Goa has become the first State in the country to roll out an unemployment allowance. This scheme would be applicable only to the unemployed undergraduates of the State who have registered with the employment exchange. The allowance would be a maximum of Rs. 1200 for those who have competed their 12th Standard and a lower amount for the less qualified.
As per government figures, Goa has around 80,000 unemployed youth registered with the employment exchange of which around 20,000 are graduates and above, 20,000 are Class XII pass and 40,000 are matriculates or less.
This would be breather for many unemployed youth but keeping at bay the possibilities of this being misused as the sole source income as this partly amount qualifies not even as a subsistence allowance and furthermore….. this allowance would be given only for a period of 3 years.
