Change in work timings: Strike call in NLC
As per the new schedule, those serving in the Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited office should remain in duty from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., instead of the regular 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Due Statutory Notice was reportedly given to the workmen.
The Pattali Thozhir Sangam (PTS), owing allegiance to the Pattali Makkal Katchi, served a strike notice on the Neyveli Lignite Corporation management on Wednesday. Their plea is that they were taken by surprise as to the decision of the Management in changing the work timings w.e.f August 18th.
While due notice has been reportedly provided, i.e. notice under Section 9A of the ID Act, for Notice of Change; would mean that 21 days notice was given. If that is case the Union have no reason to be surprised!!
But the underlying issue seems to be what was reported towards the end of the Article. The Article in The Hindu stated that ‘Moreover, there were other pending issues such as providing employment on compassionate grounds to the wards of deceased employees and release of 15 per cent incentive’. This rightly seems to be the objective that the Union is aiming at.
